Steel Mid- Atlantic Racing Tour /  S.M.A.R.T Series

Mission of this series:

S.M.A.R.T strives to promote growth in affordable upper level dirt track racing. This is done by establishing a foundation to allow future growth in the Super Late Model division, by building a cornerstone of local track competitors while teaching the experiences of a touring series through steel block late models. This series is devoted to the steel block late model division.

Tracks:

The series will be based on a maximum of 12 races and 6 tracks in the Mid-Atlantic region the first year. Each track would receive at least 1 race, with most receiving 2. Each track would alternate as host of the season finals. After the first year, the growth rate would be limited to no more than 2 additional tracks per year.

The S.M.A.R.T Sanction Format

The sanctioning body will operate each race with their own officials, stewards, tech equipment, rule enforcement, awards and trophies. Each event will be run by the series officials, for the host track. The Series will require that each track commit to the purse structure that has been established by S.M.A.R.T in 2008. A pre-promotion package consisting of, event posters, press releases, and extensive internet promotion would be available to each track within 30 days of their scheduled event with the series. S.M.A.R.T will help to promote each series race along with the series drivers for the entire season.

The Drivers:

S.M.A.R.T is a sanctioned touring series. Each competitor that wishes to compete for the season point fund will be required to purchase a membership. This membership will be good for any series race through the end of the calendar year. The season membership for 2008 is $50.00 payable by the first race the competitor wants to run for points. Each series race will be a point race. Points will be accumulated towards the season championship. Most series races will be set up as to not interfere with each track’s point championship. Each base track is required to not run a track point race once per month, or on the other track’s event dates. This is to ensure uniformity in car counts and fairness between each track in the series.  We would like to work with each driver that wishes to run with us and still run for a home track championship as well. This series championship works like an additional bonus to the tracks and their competitors. This way each track would have the opportunity to host at least one event with the possibility of a 30+ quality field of cars and drivers.

The Xtreme 8:

The Xtreme 8 is a format to get added exposure to the top 8 drivers that are committed to running the entire schedule with S.M.A.R.T in 2008. These competitors will be used in press releases and advertisements for each event. These 8 competitors will receive bonus money at the end of the season. To effectively decide on who these 8 will be, requires a commitment from each as well as each competitor must stay in the top eight in points. Once a competitor drops lower than eighth in the points they will be replaced by the new eighth place competitor in points. This makes for an exciting battle not only for the championship, but for the coveted eighth place all season long! Action everywhere is what the S.M.A.R.T series is all about!

The Schedule:

Though not complete for 2008, the schedule will include 3 base tracks. These tracks are the foundation of the series. These are intended to be tracks that are centrally located in the region and will receive 2 races each per season. The remainder of the tracks will be throughout the region, to include; Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania. These tracks will be worked into the schedule as to not interfere with the base track’s point championships. Look for some fast, exciting tracks to be on the schedule!
Some of the tracks that are either committed or showing intent are Winchester Speedway, Elkins Motor Speedway, Natural Bridge Speedway, County Line Speedway, Clary's Speedway and more!
All tracks involved will be announced as soon as the schedule is set!
